(Lycopersicon esculentum) Oh-my-goodness-these-are-so-cute! Ceylon has all the look of a big ruffled beefsteak type tomato but in a miniature little package, only slightly larger than your average cherry tomato. From seed we originally got from Tom Stearns of High Mowing Seed over 20 years ago, this prolific and early tomato has long been one of our favorites. We used it as a real eye-catcher in our cherry tomato mixes at market. Great sweet/tart flavor. Not quite a cherry but not quite a slicer either. The last time we grew it, the plants were straining under the weight of them. And the taste? Gracious. SOWING:

Sow 5-8 weeks before your last frost date.

Transplant out after danger of frost (45+F nighttime temps).

Note: Don't start too early or plants will be leggy and root-bound! Tomatoes do well in clay to loam soils.

FERTILITY:

Medium-Heavy. Prefers well-drained, well-balanced fertile soil with a pH between 6.0-7.0. Note that excess Nitrogen will encourage foliage, not fruit! Low calcium and irregular watering will result in blossom end rot.

Row cover may be used for extra warmth and possible earlier fruit set.
